Short Biography

Mr Sharr is a founding member of SNS, an integrated team of world-class neurosurgeons providing specialist cranial and spinal neurosurgery. SNS collectively have more than fifty years of Consultant experience at the internationally recognised Clinical Neurosciences Centre based at King's College Hospital, London.

Professional Profile

Having qualified in 1965(St. George's Hospital) MRCP was obtained in 1969, following an additional period of training in general medicine at Good Hope Hospital, Sutton Coldfield. At the end of general surgical training in Derby and Southampton FRCS was obtained in 1971. The main neurosurgical training from 1972 until 1979 was in Southampton with interspersed periods at Great Ormond Street, London and later Glasgow and Plymouth. In 1979 Mr. Sharr was appointed as Consultant Neurosurgeon, Liverpool; this post was subsequently relinquished and he was appointed as Consultant Neurosurgeon, Brook General Hospital, London in 1981. From 1981 until 1995 (when The Brook General Hospital was closed) Mr. Sharr worked with two colleagues and provided a general neurosurgical service for Kent and South East London.

During this time he developed his main interests of Spinal Neurosurgery, Neurovascular surgery and Trigeminal Neuralgia. In addition, Mr.Sharr was the driving force behind the operative training of the Registrars and Senior Registrars many of whom are now established consultants in the U.K. From 1995 onwards Mr.Sharr has been Consultant Neurosurgeon at Kings College Hospital, London continuing his work with additional emphasis on Spinal Neurosurgery. During his medical career Mr. Sharr been author/co-author of 27 papers and author of chapters in 8 books. His non medical interests include 20th Century History, Music and Opera (including the lives and arts of late 19th and early 20th century opera singers), Tennis and Horse racing and keeping fit.
